Scott #20, AFA #20.1, Facit #24a. Printing 1: Bluish Gray and Emerald Green. [1871 16 skilling Bicolor] Used with Fine centering and with neat #208 3-ring numeral cancellation (Nørresundby). There is one short perforation tooth on the left side, "hidden" by the cancellation. The perforations at bottom are slightly rough or blunted, but that is fairly typical of the horizontal perforations on this stamp; again they are "hidden" by the cancellation. While this smaller-town cancellation is not "scarce" on the 4 skilling Bicolor stamps, it is "scarce" on the 16 skilling Bicolor according to the survey presented in "Denmark Numeral Cancels" by J. Barefoot (1983). The survey done by Barefoot, which was not exhaustive, did not record any examples of #208 on the 16 skilling Bicolor. That does not mean that it is "rare", though it might be, but that it is at least "scarce". The cancellation is a little light, but under magnification, there is no doubt that it is 208. A very attractive example with excellent, fresh color and appearance. This stamp, with this centering and a common cancellation, but with perfect perforation teeth would sell for $120. However, with a "scarce" cancellation, it is surely a much more special item!
