Faroe: EJDE starless (uds) cancellation, GF10 #05.02 on Denmark Scott #220 x2, 224, 240 x3 [1939 1 øre dark greenish black Wavy-Lines; 1940 6 øre orange Wavy-Lines; 1934 bluish green Christian X] Used VF on piece of parcel, COD, or money order card with SIX VF to Superb strikes of the cancellation, plus a hard-to-read Thorshavn dated cancellation. There is a violet processing date handstamp on the back, but it only reads 19 April (no year) -- however, based on the 6 øre stamp issued 23 March, we know that this must have been used in 1940 or after (based on these dates, likely 1941 or after). The 188 øre postal rate is remarkably unusual, as is the combination of stamps and overall attractiveness. A very nice item!

223a / B6 Pair [1937 5 øre gray green Wavy-Lines and 5 øre Dybbøl Mill semi-postal] Used horizontal pair with XF-Superb centering and very neat cancellation. The booklet pane from which this came is the only possible source for the Gray Green 5 øre Wavy-Lines stamp. Used examples of the single #223a are always in strong demand -- a Used VF single sells for $48; this is even nicer quality. The presence of the semi-postal stamp does not increase the value very much, but it confirms the color of the #223a.

Boom #3.19, Facit #H11, AFA #2kr-4 [1937 Dybbøl Mill] NH VF complete booklet in wonderful, fresh quality. The cover has never been bent/creased (there are the usual couple minor dents from the staples of other booklets in the stack; this is expected). This booklet contains panes of Scott #B6-8, with accompanying one-each per pane 223a (two 223d panes), 229 (one 229b pane), and 238A Small Pearls (one 238Al pane). This is the only source for Scott #223a (the Gray Green 5 øre Numeral stamp). Just the in-demand two #223a and the one #238 Small Pearls stamps have a total actual selling price of $175! The 2021 AFA value for the booklet is DKK 1700 = about US$270 (12/2021). This booklets is often "well handled" but this example is very fresh. The panes in this example are all VF or better. The cover has been slightly creased at the staple by somebody who opened the cover to look at the panes (however, this does not reduce the primary intrinsic value, which comes from the panes). This booklet contains panes of Scott #B6-8, with accompanying one-each per pane 223a (two 223d panes), 229 (one 229b pane), and 238A Small Pearls (one 238Al pane). This is the only source for Scott #223a (the Gray Green 5 øre Numeral stamp). Just the in-demand two #223a and the one #238 Small Pearls stamps have a total actual selling price of $175! 223d, 229b, 238Al Set [1937 Dybbøl Mill set of panes, see Scott #B6-8] Mint (lower stamps NH) VF/XF set of three 4-blocks (i.e. the booklet panes without the mounting tabs; this is the way they are shown in many albums). Extremely lightly hinged on the top two stamps only. 223d, the green 5 øre block, contains Scott #223a, the scarce grayish-green stamp; this is the only source of that stamp -- this example of 223a is NH XF. The brown 10 øre block contains the AFA Type IA / Facit Type II of Scott #229, the 10 øre brown Wavy-Line issue; a scarcer stamp -- this example is XF. The red 15 øre block contains Facit #227a, the "Fine pearls in crown", which is a scarce stamp in its own right -- this example is NH VF. While the 5 øre block is in great demand for the single Wavy-Line #223a stamp, the 15 øre block is actually much less often seen and the 10 øre block is greatly under-rated. Just those three stamps, not including the 9 semi-postal stamps, would sell individually for a total of $160 in this quality. The set is offered for just the price of those three stamps!

224 non-fluor (Plate Variety), AFA #246x [1938 5 øre wine red Engraved Wavy-Line / Numeral] Used with VF appearance and an almost complete, well-centered, AALBORG cancellation, but creased -- looks great from the front. The well-known CLUB FOOT variety and line in bottom right of K of DANMARK variety from position 30 in part of the printing. There are actually two club foot varieties, this one also with the line in the K, and a different one, without the line in K (and slightly different club foot), from position 40 in part of the printing. A very nice example despite the creasing. Seldom offered and always in demand. Taking the great postmark into account, this must be the nicest looking example of this variety that I have had in 50 years! If not creased, this example would certainly well quickly at $40.

227 Facit/AFA Type I GERMAN PAPER: Facit #108a variety, AFA #201A [1933 8 øre gray Wavy Lines / Numeral, First Type] NEVER HINGED with Superb centering. Wonderfully fresh. The German Paper printing was the first printing. The paper and the gum are darker under UV light; the gum is also quite a bit darker under daylight. The gray ink of the German Paper stamps are always GREEN under UV light, however, the first printing(s?) of the Danish Paper are also green under UV light. The dark gum is the distinguishing characteristic (along with a different stamp color shade) for the Type I on German Paper. The German Paper stamps are only listed by the AFA Specialized Catalog. They were virtually all used up in normal postal use, thus NH or Mint examples are seldom offered. A spectacular example; this is rarely offered with perfect centering such as this!

An excellent example of this scarce major type showing the defining characteristics. This stamp has a place in most European-made Danish albums, but it is missing from (or misidentified in) the vast majority of collections. Very pretty example.

229b [1937 Dybbøl Mill 10 + 5 øre 4-block with 10 øre Wavy-Line Numeral, from booklet pane; see Scott #B6-8] Used combination 4-block from booklet pane (i.e. no binding selvage) with XF 21 January 1937 (SECOND DAY OF USE) "KJØBENHAVN/ 3 / 3" cancellation. The fact that this is the second day of use (not first day and not years later) and the face that it is canceled at a typical substation, makes it much more likely that this is genuine non-philatelic use. Nice used examples of this combination block are remarkably hard to find.

The underlying stamp was printed in Type I (this example) and Type II (common, not this example). The Type I underlying stamps were printed on German Paper and Danish Paper. The German Paper has grayish paper, dark gum, and ink that is light green under UV light -- this overprint was never applied to the German Paper stamps. The Danish Paper stamps have whiter paper and light-colored gum, but were printed with both the ink that is light green under UV light (scarcer) and this example which was printed with ink that is gray under UV light. All the Type I overprinted stamps are scarce. This scarce stamp has (as a single) a place in most European-made Danish albums, but it is missing from (or misidentified in) the vast majority of collections. Most blocks of this scarce stamp were broken up long ago; this is the first time in 50 years that I have been able to offer a block! An outstanding block that would be a key item in a collection of the Engraved Wavy-Line Numeral stamps. NH XF singles sell for $79 each; this block is offered for just a little less than four singles!

688a Booklet Pane, AFA #HS8 [1984 pane of 10: #688 x2, #318 x2, #494 x6; combination pane from booklet Edition #H26 and H27] Used XF with neat 26 September 1984 cancellations. Wonderfully fresh and attractive. This is one of the scarcer modern panes. A complete mint booklet sells for around $30; the AFA 2023 value for this Used pane is DKK 180 ($27)! Seldom offered and missing from most Used stamp collections.
