Scott does not "number" these colors, but the ultramarine really should have a number in my opinion; and they do in many other countries where there are such differences. An attractive example. The blue color -- a very dark blue in this case -- not the ultramarine color. Scott #219D [1890 2c LAKE Washington, Without Triangles] Mint with VF-XF centering, but with only partial (original) gum due to removal of a hinge. Also has one short perforation tooth at top and an associated tiny thin at that spot. Despite those problems, this example has wonderful color, an extremely detailed engraving impression, remarkably nice centering, and is otherwise very fresh and attractive looking. A "scarce" stamp in Unused condition at a very low price. (Scott 2025 value is $160.) ACTUAL item. |

Scott #220 Bright Intense Carmine [1890 2c carmine Washington] Mint, lightly hinged, with F-VF+ centering. A very attractive and fresh example. This "bright intense carmine" color, not mentioned by Scott, may be the intended Scott-listed "dark carmine" but this example is much more intense and saturated than any other example I have in stock. Nice mint examples of this workhorse stamp, especially interesting color shades, can be hard to find. ACTUAL item. |

Scott #220 "Carmine Lake" [1890 2c carmine Washington] Mint, regummed, with VF centering. An interesting looking stamp. The "lake-like" color of this example is quite distinctive, but it is much lighter than the #219D lake color. It could be that some aspect of the regumming process caused a color change, or perhaps this is just a lake-like dark carmine example. Regardless, it looks unusual! Even though regummed, nice-looking mint examples of this workhorse stamp, especially interesting color shades, can be hard to find. ACTUAL item. |
