Scott #1889a (1880-1889) Booklet Pane with PLATE JOIN LINE [1981 18c American Wildlife set of ten] NH with XF centering -- which is quite unusual for this issue -- with bold vertical line in the left margin which I believe to be a plate join line (the same type of line resulting in coil line pairs). Without binding tab. I have not found this feature mentioned in the catalogs, but I have just suggested to the Scott editors that they consider adding at least a footnote in the catalog, if not a priced listing! A very interesting and little-known variety. ACTUAL item. |

The block shows strong black vertical streaking in the left selvage and light streaking in the left stamps. This streaking typically results from a defective wiper blade or one that is clogged. Scott #2041 "UNFINISHED BRIDGE" SHORT TRANSFER variety [1983 20c Brooklyn Bridge] NH XF Upper Left Plate Block #1 with variety in upper right stamp. This Scott-listed major plate variety (an error when making the plate) is clearly illustrated in the catalog though they do not assign sub-numbers to such items. Only exists from plate position 2 of upper left panes (i.e. only upper right stamp of upper left plate blocks), thus theoretically 1 out of 200 stamps has the variety, but it is rarely offered. Only plate numbers 1, 4, 5, 6 exist. Wonderful example. Undervalued in Scott. ACTUAL item. |
