Scott #219 Blue [1890 1c blue / ultramarine Franklin] Mint, lightly hinged, with F-VF centering. The blue color, not the ultramarine color. Scott does not "number" these colors, but the ultramarine really should have a number in my opinion; and they do in many other countries where there are such differences. An attractive example. (Scott 2022 $20.00.)

Scott #219 Ultramarine [1890 1c blue / ultramarine Franklin] Mint, hinge remnant, with F-VF+ centering, but tiny thin speck. The ultramarine color, not the blue color. Scott does not "number" these colors, but the ultramarine really should have a number in my opinion; and they do in many other countries where there are such differences. Attractive at a very low price. (Scott 2022 $20.00.)

Scott #219 Dark Blue [1890 1c blue / ultramarine Franklin] Mint with Fine centering, but one darkened perf at top and one shorter perf at lower left. The blue color -- a very dark blue in this case -- not the ultramarine color. Scott does not "number" these colors, but the ultramarine really should have a number in my opinion; and they do in many other countries where there are such differences. (Scott 2022 $20.00.)

Scott #220 Bright Intense Carmine [1890 2c carmine Washington] Mint, lightly hinged, with F-VF+ centering. A very attractive and fresh example. This "bright intense carmine" color, not mentioned by Scott, may be the intended Scott-listed "dark carmine" but this example is much more intense and saturated than any other example I have in stock. Nice mint examples of this workhorse stamp, especially interesting color shades, can be hard to find.

Scott #220 Dark Carmine [1890 2c carmine Washington] Mint, lightly hinged, with F-VF centering. Very fresh with great color. The color is dark enough that a previous owner thought it was the #219D lake color, but it is not. (Scott 2022 $20.)

Scott #220 "Carmine Lake" [1890 2c carmine Washington] Mint, regummed, with VF centering. An interesting looking stamp. The "lake-like" color of this example is quite distinctive, but it is much lighter than the #219D lake color. It could be that some aspect of the regumming process caused a color change, or perhaps this is just a lake-like dark carmine example. Regardless, it looks unusual! Even though regummed, nice-looking mint examples of this workhorse stamp, especially interesting color shades, can be hard to find.

Scott #220 Carmine Rose on Bright White Paper [1890 2c carmine Washington] Mint, moderately hinged, with F-VF centering, but creased (hard to see from the front). Looks great! This "carmine rose" color, is listed by Scott, but in my experience mint examples are harder to find than some other colors. Nice-looking mint examples of this workhorse stamp, especially interesting color shades, can be hard to find.

Scott #222 Dark Brown [1890 4c brown Lincoln] NEVER HINGED with Fine centering, but with crease (looks very nice from the front). Natural left straight edge. This is a left margin position from the right pane. This stamp was printed in a sheet of 200 with fully perforated margins on the outer four sides. The sheet of 200 was then divided by cutting into two panes of 100 (left pane with straight edge on right side and right pane with straight edge on left side). Thus only 10 stamps out of 200 have the straight edge on the left side. It seems that many/most such examples have since been reperforated to remove the straight edge -- example with straight edge are not often offered. I think that collecting straight-edge and arrow positions of this issue is quite challenging and rewarding. (Scott 2022 $80 for a normal hinged example and $240 for a normal NH example.)
