Scott #300 [1903 1c blue green Franklin] Mint, moderately hinged, with F-VF centering. Natural left straight edge example. This is from the left margin of a right pane. This stamp was printed in sheets 400, divided into four panes of 100, 10 columns and 10 rows, with a horizontal and vertical guideline between the panes. Only 9 stamps out of every 100-pane had only the natural straight edge at the right (and same for at left, top, and bottom). Despite this respective 9% of production, of examples with any particular single straight edge, and especially those cut so that the full guideline is showing, are now quite hard to find (most were used for postage rather than going into collections; and of those that remained, in the last 50 years many have been reperforated to remove the straight edge). I think that collecting the straight-edge and guideline positions is quite challenging and rewarding. Regardless and/or because of all that, NH or Hinged examples with the straight edge on this fairly common stamp are surprisingly hard to find! Under magnification, this example shows an additional variety: a plate layout line ( not a pane division guideline) in the left margin. Such lines were to aid the siderographer, the person who transfers the impressions from the die to the plate, in placing the impression on the plate -- they were supposed to be burnished off, but this line is still faintly visible. An attractive example with two interesting varieties.

Scott #307 Pale Red Brown [1903 10c red brown (shades) Webster] Mint with Fine centering, but with heavy hinge remnant. The main Scott listing for this stamp is for Pale Red Brown, but this example is more pale than any other of the dozens of mint or used examples in my stock. That also results in a highly detailed engraving impression. A very attractive example of a stamp that can be quite hard to find with centering better than this. (Scott 2026 value is $60.)
