Scott #406 [1912 2c carmine Washington, Type I, Perforated 12, Flat Plate, Single-Line Watermark] Mint WITHOUT GUM, with Superb centering. Wonderfully rich color and fresh appearance. While this is a common stamp with normal centering, example with centering this nice are hard to find. The lack of gum certainly reduces the price, but if you only collect the front of the stamp, this is a great opportunity. (Scott 2024 graded value for Mint Hinged with gum is $70 for Superb.)

Scott #408 Yellow Green [1912 1c green Washington Imperforate, Flat Plate, Single-Line Watermark] Mint Hinged, with VF margins and centering. Horizontal pair with vertical guideline. Scott #408-409 were printed in sheets of 400. They were available both in panes of 100 and in full sheets of 400 (which were used by makers of private vending machine coil stamps). The sheets divided into panes of 100 were cut along vertical and horizontal guidelines which were terminated by arrows in the margins. Arrow-margin examples can be hard to find, especially in used condition and on cover. Because of the availability of the full sheets of 400, guideline pairs and blocks are available and are avidly collected. (Most guideline SINGLE stamps were used for postage and Used single examples were often discarded, rather than going into collections.) I think that collecting the different guideline positions and multiples is quite challenging and rewarding. This is the Yellow Green color, one of three colors listed by Scott (there is also Green and Dark Green). Very attractive.

Scott #409 SCARLET [1912 2c Washington, Type I, Imperforate, Flat Plate, Single-Line Watermark] NEVER HINGED with XF margins and centering. One of the three colors listed by Scott, however in my opinion this color is tremendously scarcer than the no-premium Scott value suggests; my stock has usually shown that fewer than 2% of my examples have been the Scarlet color. Left Margin Single with horizontal guideline in top margin and arrow in left margin. Scott #408-409 were printed in sheets of 400. They were available both in panes of 100 and in full sheets of 400 (which were glued together using the margins, by makers of private vending machine coil stamps). Arrow-margin examples can be hard to find, especially in used condition and on cover. Scott #412 YELLOWISH GREEN [1912 1c Washington, Horizontal Coil, Flat Plate, Perf 8.5 Vertically, Single-Line Watermark] NEVER HINGED with VF-XF centering, but two blunted perforations at upper left. The right stamp of a joint line pair. Though this issue exists in a range of color shades, Scott only mentions Green and Deep Green. Fresh and attractive with great color and (other than the two perfs) excellent perforations. Based on various characteristics, I believe this stamp to be a genuine #412. I guarantee it to be genuine only to the extent of refunding the purchase price. I have not obtained a certificate (and I will not pay for a certificate if you obtain one, regardless of the outcome) because of the cost of the certificate vs the relatively low value of this example. A terrific-looking example of a stamp that is hard to obtain with such nice appearance. (Scott 2025 value $55 for NH.)

An attractive example with great color and excellent appearance. Right stamp of a joint line pair. One of the two colors listed by Scott. Attractive with excellent color and "perfect" perforations. Left straight edge single with vertical guideline at left. Left margin stamp from a right pane. Scott #414-422 were printed in sheets of 400, divided into panes of 100, cut along vertical and horizontal guidelines which were terminated by arrows in the margins. Arrow-margin examples can be hard to find. Examples with straight edges on one of the four sides (left or right or top or bottom) each originally represented 18 out 400 stamps printed or 4.5% of the issue quantity, but far fewer remain extant today. (Most straight edge and/or guideline single stamps were used for postage and such Used single examples were often discarded, rather than going into collections.) Scott #420 DARK ORANGE RED [1914 30c Franklin, Perf 12, Single-Line Watermark] Used with Fine+ centering and neat cancellation. An attractive example of the dark color. This is one of the two colors listed by Scott: Orange Red and Dark Orange Red. In my experience, I would have called them red orange (or just orange) vs dark orange red (or just dark orange). Unless you have examples of both colors, it might be hard to know which you have. Well centered examples of this stamp are quite hard to find. (Scott 2025 value $17.50.)

Scott #420 ORANGE RED [1914 30c Franklin, Perf 12, Single-Line Watermark] Used with Average centering and very light cancellation. Bottom straight edge single with horizontal guideline at bottom. Bottom margin stamp from an upper pane. (Most straight edge and/or guideline single stamps were used for postage and such Used single examples were often discarded, rather than going into collections.) I think that collecting the different guideline positions and multiples is quite challenging and rewarding.
