New York #MG1 [1900 Mortgage Endorsement, engraved, imperforate, green] NH VF in wonderfully fresh condition. The stamp is listed in the 2013 "The State Revenue Catalog" on page 438. Use started in 1910-1911, with this issue largely replaced in 1911; this tax was discontinued in 1920. The catalog prices used examples at $35, but mint examples were not known to the catalog editors! This type of stamp was little used and all examples are "few examples known". A beautiful stamp design that is apparently not previously recorded in mint condition (I discovered 6 undamaged examples and two heavily damaged examples). Though I have lived in North Carolina since 1989, and Bonnie and I collect such items from North Carolina, I had never before actually seen a single example of any of the denominations of these decals until I found five examples of this item, only two of which were in perfect condition.
