Scott #112P3-122P3 [1869 1c-90c Pictorials] The COMPLETE SET OF 10 (#112P3-117P3, 119P3-122P3) Plate Proofs on India Paper. XF appearance, all with vibrant colors and all with large to huge margins. [India paper plate proofs of #118, the 15c Type I, do not exist, thus this IS the complete set of 10.] The 6c has an internal natural bend; the 24c has a couple "sand holes", pinholes caused by natural inclusions such as grains of sand in the paper that have since fallen out; the 90c has a natural translucent inclusion in the top margin. That range of minor problems is typical on these plate proofs. This is a beautiful set showing just how wonderful these stamp designs and engravers art were intended to look. A seldom-offered set; the only such set I have had in 51 years. (Scott 2025 value $770.)

Scott #112 [1869 1c buff Franklin] Used with F-VF centering and bold segmented carved cancellation. Natural sheet margin straight edge at left. Huge margins on left and bottom, completely clear at top and right. I think collecting the possible natural sheet-margin straight-edge positions would be an interesting and challenging endeavor. (Scott 2022 $140.)

Scott #113 [1869 2c brown Post Rider] Mint with F-VF+ centering, full original gum with reasonable hinge remnant. This example has a wide natural straight edge on the right side. Such straight edges were originally scarcer (the left and right were either each only 10% or 15% of the original issue quantity), however, it seems that the majority of them have long since been reperforated to make them look like perforated-4-side stamps. I think collecting the natural straight edges of the 1c-12c values of the 1869 issue would be a fun and challenging endeavor! Mint examples especially are now scarce with natural straight edges. Deep, rich color, with very clean and clear engraving impression with an unusual amount of detail -- a proof-like impression! (Scott 2022 $500.)

Scott #113 [1869 2c brown Post Rider] Mint with Average-Fine centering. This example is regummed -- most unused examples are either regummed or without gum. There appears to be a very small plate crack (printing variety) in the top margin. Deep, rich color, with very clean and clear engraving impression with an unusual amount of detail -- a proof-like impression! This is the first U.S. nationally issued postage stamp to picture a horse and one of the earliest-in-the-world actual-pictorial (the horse is being actively ridden) stamps picturing a horse. A very reasonably priced example of a stamp that is quite scarce in unused condition. (For comparison, the Scott 2025 value for original gum is $500 and the Scott value for no gum -- which this could be if soaked -- is $190.)

Scott #113 [1869 2c brown Post Rider] Used with XF centering, but very bold carved cancellation. Virtually perfect centering, excellent perforations, and unusually deep color. The first regular issue U.S. stamp to picture a non-bird animal. But for the cancellation, the price would be around $225 for such great centering. (Scott 2022 $80 for VF and Scott 2021 $275 for XF-90.)

Scott #118 [1869 15c brown and blue Landing of Columbus, Type I] Mint, regummed, Average-Fine centered, with small/tiny thins, gum soaks, and a few short perforations. The "gum soaks" are the result of the regumming soaking into the paper at the location of the thins. Despite that negative description, this is an attractive looking example of a stamp that is very scarce in any mint/unused condition. The Type I stamp is seldom offered in mint/unused condition! Accompanied by a 2019 Philatelic Foundation certificate. (Scott 2020 value is $3250 for no-gum and $9000 with original gum.)
