Scott #427 [1914 4c brown Washington, Perforated 10, Single-Line Watermark] BLOCK OF FOUR with VF-XF and XF centering, and light cancellations (struck with the side-edge of the barred-oval killer part of a duplex device). The perforations have never been folded; there are no separations. Used blocks of this stamp are much scarcer than the modest catalog value suggests. However, nice-looking used blocks with well-centered stamps can almost be described as "rare". For that matter, such well-centered single stamps are even quite hard to find. This is an exceptional item for which the value cannot be found in any catalog. Though still modestly priced, this block would be an outstanding showpiece in a specialized Washington-Franklin collection! (Scott 2024 graded value for XF single Used stamps is $17.50 each; but that only begins to convey the scarcity of this wonderful block.) |
